Next time you visit the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) building, say “hello” to Susan Cook, when you see her. And, please congratulate Susan on being one of the longest-standing members of ASPA, looking back on 32 years at the U of S, with 8 years as an ASPA member. Susan is not difficult to find: as Building Manager of the WCVM building, she needs to maintain her daily presence in all corners of what counts as one of the most diverse buildings on campus, encompassing offices, class rooms, research space and labs, clinical space for the animal patients, both interior and exterior, and public spaces for visitors. Susan became WCVM Building Manager in 2008, motivated by her interest in the building and its history. Susan explains: Read More
All ASPA members are invited to the spring pizza social, to be held on June 8 at noon in the Health Sciences Atrium, which is in the D wing. Come out and join the ASPA Executive for some pizza and pop. It is a great chance to network with other ASPA members and ask questions of the ASPA Executive. We hope to see you there!
Ah spring! Once again a time for renewed focus, motivation, and yes the annual call to the ASPA membership for volunteers to fill positions on the executive and ASPA Committees.
Volunteer? Curious how the word makes you feel. Granted it does carry some level of weight. A responsibility to live up to some terms or perhaps an onus to carry for some time? What about the opportunity it presents though? The chance to contribute or to improve? Lofty ideals but meanings that also apply.
ASPA advocates on behalf of members to improve the working environment at the UofS.

The committee made a number of recommendations to the Executive regarding the recognition of our members service: Read More
As part of our ASPA Newsletter we want to introduce you to the volunteers who make up the Executive Committee. Throughout the year the communications committee will highlight these individuals so that members can learn more about those who represent them. We decided the first highlight would be our longest-serving member of the Executive, Paola Chiste, and we asked what drew her to Volunteer for ASPA and what she has learned in the process.
Paola is a Research Officer in the International Centre for Northern Governance and Development and a long time volunteer with ASPA. Paola first started volunteering for ASPA back in 2000. She was fresh out of school and couldn’t resist the offer of free lunches after years of the starving-student mentality. Paola jokes, “I quickly learned that there is no such thing as a free lunch.” Read More
