My name is Peter Krebs and it is my pleasure to announce the recent decision made by the ASPA Executive members to appoint a new president/vice-president complement for the year 2017-2018.
I have accepted the position of ASPA President for this year. I have done so in knowing that I will be supported by the two experienced vice-presidents, Lisa Bagonluri and Dawn Giesbrecht; that I can count on my fellow ASPA Executive members for their wisdom and guidance; and last but not least, that the all-important business of the association is in the capable hands of our staff members, Annetta Gellner and Darcy Hryn.
A few words about myself: I was born and raised in Germany. After obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cologne, I pursued an MBA degree at the (former) College of Commerce, U of S. Upon graduation, I decided to stay in Saskatoon, get married, and raise a family.
For many years, I worked as a self-employed community economic development consultant, primarily in rural Saskatchewan. Off and on, I connected to the world of academia by working as a sessional lecturer for the College of Commerce, at SIAST, and at the Dumont Technical Institute. Through the 90s and before 2006, I had a number of short-term administrative and research contracts at the University: at the former Extension Division, at the Centre for the Study of Cooperatives, and at the Community-University Institute for Social Research.
In 2006, I became a member of ASPA, as I was hired into the Inter-professional Health Sciences Office. In 2010, I accepted a position in Institutional Planning and Assessment, from where I moved into my current role as College Secretary in the College of Arts and Science, in 2013. This position is responsible for facilitating collegial governance processes under the auspices of the College Faculty Council. I also work on several administrative projects that arise in the Dean’s Office, from time to time.
I am excited about the opportunity to follow Dawn Giesbrecht in the role as ASPA president; Dawn has set the bar really high. If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
