Hello ASPA Members,
September 30 is recognized as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. It is a day dedicated to both reflection and action concerning Canada’s history of systemic harm against Indigenous peoples and their cultures. As ASPA members live and work throughout the province of Saskatchewan, including on Treaty 6 territory, Treaty 4 territory, and the Homeland of the Métis, we bear the responsibility to respect the land and its original inhabitants, and to continually strive to improve our relationship with one another. Let us remember and acknowledge the pain and courage of the survivors of residential schools and honor the memory of the children who did not return home. For more information, please visit: Government of Canada: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
As a reminder, please note that ASPA has been circulating a petition to make September 30th a public (statutory) holiday in Saskatchewan, and it will be presented in the Saskatchewan Legislature later this year (as sponsored by MLA Erika Ritchie). Find more information about this petition and how to sign it at aspasask.ca.
In solidarity,
Your ASPA Executive Committee
