President’s Message: April 2026

April 10, 2026 | President's Message

Our organization has been incredibly busy this winter. This academic year has brought a mix of challenges and growth for our membership. Member engagement is incredibly strong, and we are honoured to represent and protect our members to ensure that you are treated fairly and are valued in the important work that you do. I give sincere thanks to our ASPA staff members, Angeline Hainstock and Shayne Meggs, as well as our entire executive for the time, dedication, and service they provide to members.

In addition to our work representing members in a multitude of capacities, ASPA has engaged in outreach activities across our campuses. ASPA was proud to host several Lunch and Learn sessions this year, including a session on Bargaining and the Collective Agreement, Indigenous Specific Clauses in the Collective Agreement, and a session on Personal Days. Our social events were well attended, including the Scoops of Solidarity, the Winter Social, and the Pizza Lunch. We also finalized the process to form a committee on Artificial Intelligence that is forthcoming in the next few months
Our members are actively engaging in Union training activities. Again, this year, ASPA sent seven members to the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL) Occupational Health and Safety Convention, two members to the SFL Pensions Conference, and we will be sending nine members to the SFL Union Spring School in Moose Jaw at the end of April. We are also sponsoring two spots at the SFL Summer Camp.

ASPA was pleased to offer a workshop on Bargaining to members interested in learning more about this important process and who might be interested in putting their names forward for the ASPA Bargaining Committee. Hugh Wagner kindly facilitated the workshop, and we had over twenty participants sign up for the two-day event. ASPA submitted our Notice to Bargain to the Employer, and we will announce our bargaining team shorty. Additionally, our ASPA staff members are working on their first collective agreement with the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union (COPE), and we are pleased to be working together with them to finalize this agreement.

Finally, I would like to highlight how our membership has grown over the past few years. As of March 2026, ASPA has 1690 members. This is a time of incredible growth for us.  ASPA’s pledge to our membership is to always advocate for you so that you are respected, protected, and flourish in your work. It has been an honour serving as the President this year, and again, our team, and our collective voices and actions are what make us strong.

In solidarity,

Rob Procyk
