Incentivized Exit Program/Voluntary Exit Program (VEP)

It is probably safe to say that most people were aware that the University offered an Incentivized Exit Program, which also became known as the Voluntary Exit Program (VEP) at the end of May to all ASPA members.  We are now able to report on some of the numbers associated with the Program:

  • Number of ASPA members who applied: 78
  • Number of those denied: 4
  • Number of those who withdrew: 1
  • Location of positions (grouping based on Senior Leadership portfolios):
    • Vice President Finance and Resources: – 23
    • Provost – 47
    • University Relations – 2
    • Research – 3
  • Areas seeing the largest exit:
    • Vice Provost Teaching and Learning – 16
    • ICT – 13
    • College of Arts and Science – 11
    • College of Medicine – 8
  •  Gender: Female – 51, Male – 22
  • Family (% of ASPA Membership)
    • Instructional – 3.48%
    • ICT – 7.44%
    • Managerial – 3.23%
    • Specialist Professional – 5.82%
  • Years of Service: 1 – 19 years – 52,  20 years or more – 21
  • Exits started as early as July 1, 2017 and run until December 31, 2018.  The majority the members will exit on January 31, 2018.
  • University’s estimated monthly payroll savings – approximately $500,000.00/month

ASPA does not know whether or not the University is planning on replacing any of the vacated positions.  We do know however that this will most likely impact the workload of those who remain, even though exit dates have been staggered.  We are hoping that the units are having discussions about how the work responsibilities of the voluntary exit participants will be off loaded to remaining staff, in both the short and long term.  ASPA members need to be mindful of their hours of work and provisions in the Collective Agreement with respect to this.  If you are unsure or have questions please contact Darcy Hryn – Bird at darcy@aspasask.ca or 306-966-7392.  ASPA members should be aware of their rights and that the employer does not have unfettered rights to your time.

Lastly, in the next couple of weeks, ASPA will be sending out a survey regarding the VEP.  We would appreciate you taking a minute out of your busy day to complete it.  Thank you in advance for your feedback.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.  We can be reached at aspa@aspasask.ca or 306-966-2471.
