National Day of Remberance & Action on Violence again Women

December 6, 2025 | Days of Recognition

On December 6, we pause to remember the 14 women whose lives were violently taken at École Polytechnique in Montréal in 1989.

This act of callous misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate this day National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Thirty-six years later, it continues to serve as a solemn reminder of the devastating impact of gender-based violence and the ongoing need for collective action.

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is about remembering those who have experienced gender-based violence and those who we have lost to it. This day calls on each of us to reflect, learn, and act.

At ASPA, we are deeply committed to creating environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. We take seriously our role in promoting equity and challenging the conditions that allow gender-based violence to persist—both within our workplaces and in the broader community. Whether through education, advocacy, or everyday conversations, we all have a role to play in creating a future free from violence and fear.

On this day, we wear a white ribbon to honour the victims and call for an end to gender-based violence. Together, let’s continue working toward a more just and compassionate society.

In solidarity,
