As we enjoy a day off this Labour Day, let’s remember to reflect on its powerful legacy and continued relevance. The Toronto Printers’ Strike of 1872 was a pivotal moment in Canadian history—igniting the movement for fair working conditions and laying the foundation for the rights we enjoy today.

More than 150 years later, Labour Day continues to remind us of the significant strides made in advancing workers’ rights while also recognizing the ongoing efforts required to uphold these achievements. The pursuit of equitable compensation, safe and respectful working environments, and inclusive labour practices remains a collective responsibility, and one your ASPA Executive takes seriously. We extend our sincere appreciation for your continued dedication to these principles. Through shared commitment and advocacy, we will ensure that the values of fairness and dignity remain central to our workplaces.
For information on free Labour Day events happening around the province, visit the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour’s list of events. There are events in Prince Albert, Regina, and Saskatoon, and we hope you will find time to rest and reflect on your role in the labour movement!
In solidarity,
Your ASPA Executive Committee
