Over the years I have had many different jobs. Some positions were more exciting and dynamic than others. But regardless of my job description, I love going home with a feeling of satisfaction for all the things that I have accomplished throughout the day. Part of enjoying your career is getting the most out of every day.

Here is some advice to make the most of your job:

  • Be a productive employee
  • Ask plenty of questions
  • Regularly take on new challenges
  • Pay attention to your appearance and attitude
  • Be a resource for others
  • Take training to be promoted
  • Have goals that you constantly strive for
  • Let your boss know that you are interested in advancing within your institution
  • Get credit for your good work
  • Deal with problems promptly to deflate them
  • Start small but gradually ask your employer for more challenging tasks to match your skill set
  • Renegotiate your job description
  • Volunteer to do new projects
  • Never have the attitude that certain tasks are outside your job description
  • Get candid feedback from others and reflect on it
  • Get a mentor to ask advice
  • Track and work for your success
  • Be prepared for the next step if you have maximized your potential with your current employer

Do you enjoy your job? Do you get the absolute most out of it each and every day? Are you maximizing your potential? Whether or not you make the most of your job is up to you.
